Numeracy to go, please!

Six weeks is a long time with no numeracy or literacy in your kid’s life. Will they forget everything they’ve learnt? Don’t worry you can incorporate a little numeracy on that long journey without them even knowing, try the ‘Number Cruncher’ game from Usborne Activity Cards: 50 Things to do on a Journey

1. Each person looks out of the window on their side of the car, bus or train (this really wouldn’t work on a plane!).

2. Someone says ‘go’ and each person adds up all the numbers they see – they might be on road signs, number of miles to somewhere, it could be a bus no, the permitted train speed, house number .

3. The winner is the first person to reach 100.

Alternative.....Instead of counting to 100 you could play this so that you only have 30 seconds or a minute to look for numbers. The person with the highest score at the end of the time is the winner.

Good Luck and Have Fun!
